How To Go About A Best Man Speech Leaving All Your Worries Behind

AppId is over the quota AppId is over the quota

What’s that you say? Your buddy is getting married, asked you to be his best man and give the best man speech at the after-wedding party, and you haven’t a clue what to say during it?

Fear not, friend! With my sage advice, and your determination to do your buddy proud, we’ll get through this together!

The central idea behind a best man speech is to describe the groom to the bride’s relatives, and talk him up a bit; he’s the man of the day, and people who’ve never met him are no doubt curious about what sort of person he is. Generally speaking, the length of best man speech you want to shoot for is between five and ten minutes – any less and you look like a jerk who doesn’t care, any more and you bore everyone.

Start by introducing yourself, and mention your relationship to the groom; there are probably people present who’ve never met you, and it wouldn’t do to have them wondering who that guy was who kept talking while they wanted to eat.

A lot of folks would recommend starting best man speeches with some kind of joke – and given the subject material, the best bet would probably be a humorous story about the groom. Avoid anything too ribald (no commenting on that time he woke up with a transvestite!) because after all, people’s families are there. Don’t tell an anecdote that makes him look too foolish; something that shows one of his better points would be ideal.

Depending on how good of a sense of humor your friend has, you could proceed with a roast at his expense (and if you’re making a humorous best man speech, I hope he does have one!) Never be outright mean or malicious in what you say, and once again avoid anything not safe for work, and whatever you do, do NOT say anything about the bride. Never ever ever.

The ending of any best man speech, even a humorous one, is traditionally done with a toast to their health. Offer sincere best wishes and your sincerity will infect everyone. By the way, make sure you also prepare for decent best man toasts separately while you prepare for the main speech. Several best men ruin their speeches simply by not thinking of the toast in advance. Creating a toast on the fly is never a wise idea, unless of course you only choose to raise your glass and say something like “To the couple” or “To John and Amanda”. Finishing off your speech properly is a crucial factor to make a best man speech successful and a bad ending could spoil the party.

To avoid stumbling too much, practice your best man speech after writing it. You don’t have to memorize it (though it would help) but even if you’re reading off a card held in your hand, practicing will mean you don’t stumble over any words or freeze up in front of the crowd.

Good luck, and if you start to freeze up just close your eyes and pretend you’re alone!

The Best Man Speech Order – Why You Shouldn’t Worry About It

The best man speech order is not what you should be bothered about as there isn’t any fixed rule regarding the order of wedding speeches. The wedding couple, that is the groom and the bride decide who should be giving a wedding speech during their wedding reception and depending on either the tradition or personal preferences they decides on the order in which the speakers would deliver their wedding speeches. The most widely accepted order of wedding speeches is where the father of the bride speakers first followed by the groom and the best man (in that order).

In the weddings of today, the best man speech is an integral part of this great American tradition. So it is imperative that the best man deliver a strong and enthralling speech to spice up the wedding for all who attend. These best man speeches not only set the tone for the rest of the wedding, but also they lengthen the time of the wedding and provide ample entertainment for the wedding guests. Whereas the ring bearer and the bride’s maid play relatively passive roles in the traditional wedding, the best man speech is an opportunity for the best man to make a statement.

However, despite the importance and significance of the best man’s role as a speech deliverer, it is commonly accepted that the best man speech order does not matter too much. Whether the speech is delivered at the very beginning or the very end of the wedding does not really matter – what really matters is that the speech is given with good posture, brilliance and with high regard as it is addressed to the groom and bride. Never mind that the speech could be right after the reception or a few hours after, it is still important what the speech contains. As long as the speech does not contradict itself or plagiarize any other outside sources then it should be a sufficiently adequate speech.

Great things happen when the speech is an impeccable one, but the crowd may boo if any crass humor is involved in the best man speech. People often recommend that these best man speeches address the couple directly, wishing them good wealth, prosperity, and a wonderful wedding celebration. Comments about the wedding cake or the weather that day are optional but not mandatory. Jokes and light humor are frequently well received, however dirty jokes are not accepted. The wedding should be a day of celebration and rejoicing, and too many dirty jokes will ruin the mood of the event and sidetrack the wonderful ceremony.

Often in retrospect, the best man speech order seems not to matter as much, especially if the best man speeches serve a purpose and make a point.

I have experience of being a best man and giving best man speeches a couple of times and in both cases I talked to the groom (and the bride also) and told them that it would be nice if I could speak right after the groom and in both the times the grooms happily agreed. No big deal.
