Religious Best Man Speech

Religious best man speeches are very easy to write if you are the same religion as the bride and groom, but if you are not of the same religious background, it will be pretty difficult for you to write a unique, religious best man speech.  Here are some tips for when you have to write a religious best man speech of a religion that is not your own:

Read up on the religion a little bit, just so you get to know the basics. If you have a religion, figure out the differences and similarities between yours and your groom’s religion.  This will make it much easier for you to understand and remember.Read or watch other religious best man speeches that are of the same religion, just to get a feel of what they say.  This will allow you to know what is expected from you.Talk to the groom about any traditions you should follow, and maybe even have him read through your best man speech script.Practice, you are most likely going to be pretty nervous the day of the wedding, make sure you know your speech.

To help turn down the nervousness a bit on the big day, do not be afraid to include humor.  Even though you are writing a religious best man speech does not mean you cannot be funny.  As long as it is appropriate and related to marriage, you will be fine.  It may even be entertaining to talk spiritual in some way, but be careful not to mock the religion.

Even if you are not Christian, giving a Christian best man speech is not too hard because the religion is very common, and most people know the basics, or even more in depth details.  When giving a Christian best man speech you should refer to the bible, specifically Genesis or Mark.

Though a best man speech or any wedding speech for that matter is very much related to Christian wedding s there may be a few instances where it is performed during a non-Christian wedding ceremony.

Tips for Islamic Best Man Speeches

Islamic best man speeches may be a little more difficult if you are not familiar with the religion.  Read up on the basics of the religion.  As a side tip, in the Qur’an “zawj” means mate or marriage.  Some things you might want to include in your speech are:

"There is no celibacy in Islam. Marriage is a religious duty and is consequently a moral safeguard as well as a social necessity. Islam does not equal celibacy with high Taqwa /Iman,” which was said by the Prophet.

“The general purpose of marriage is that the men and women can provide company to one another, love to one another, procreate children and live in peace and tranquility to the commandments of Allah.”

Tips for other Non-Christian Best Man Speeches

Any other form of religion will vary greatly.  You should try looking up some specific facts about the religion and their belief on marriage.  If they have a religious book, you should read the parts that talk about marriage or union between a man and a woman.  Reading and watching other best man speeches of the same religion will also help.
