Joint Best Man Speech

When you present a joint best man speech, this essentially means that there are two best men, and you both want to say the speech together instead of saying them separately. You should let the groom decide which type of speech you will give. Just because he chose two best men, does not mean that he wants you to perform a joint best man speech, he may allow you to do separate speeches all together.

Joint best man speeches normally occur when there is a group of three close friends, and the groom simply could not decide between the two, therefore he chose both of his friends to be his best man. There is no problem with this, and it doesn’t even mean the bride has to have two Maid of Honors!

But if you two are friends, the joint best man speech will most likely be more fun. The best man speech in general is supposed to be the most entertaining wedding reception speech, and a joint best man speech between two friends is one of the funniest types of best man speeches.

If there are two best men in a wedding, I highly suggest allowing them to perform a joint best man speech! Can you imagine two best friends going back and forth making jokes about their other friend—the groom! It is almost priceless—the comedy is great!

A joint best man speech should be a speech that is written together by both best men. Do not simply allow one of you to write it, and believe that the other one will just catch on. One of the great things about the best man speech is that the best man is allowed to be himself, so each of you need to write you own parts.

While writing your best man speech, be sure to include the traditional information and format into your speech, but of course, add your own special touches. Make it unique and make it so you two take place talking—talking to each other is also a good strategy.

For example, during the introduction when you are explaining how you both know the groom, you two can just chat and reminisce about good times you have had with the groom, or brag about who met him first.

Here's another example - while you are making fun of the groom, complimenting the bride, and then listing good qualities of the groom, make use of one another. Play off of what each of you say, let one thing lead to another and act like you didn’t rehearse it-it is much funnier if it seems as if you are coming up with it right there - sort of like an improvisation (improv).

If you are a part of a joint best man speech, be sure that you both write the speech together and rehearse the speech together. Make sure you both know when each of you come in, or have some signal that will let the other one it is their turn to speak. You can be creative, and it will just look like you are trying to be funny!
